The Shut Door Rebound

Yep, just as a door shuts... it rebounds and smacks you in the face. My House sharer moved in and got the online forms for help with rent in as soon as possible. Even received a receipt email.They seemed to take ages to sort it out so a phone call was made.
The information at that point was that an emergency email had been sent to say that this claim should be dealt with as soon as possible and to take the original tenancy agreement to the library, where they would copy it and the cover note and send it to the people responsible.
That was done the very next day.
Still no information..... meanwhile my housemates father is seriously ill in a hospital 60 miles away. He is worrying about both of his parents and tries to get to see them as often as possible considering the prolonged winter we're having.
Another phone call to be told he was misinformed and he'll have to claim Universal Credit if he wants help with his rent. The system only allowed her to backdate the claim for a month but she suggested explaining what has happened and as it's an exceptional case they may accept a longer backdating. I'm living in another nightmare!!
