Another Review - Meritene FAIL
It may be a little harsh to say FAIL on a freebie ... except it did!
This time I was sent a sachet of chocolate flavoured powder from #Meritene (Nestle Health Science)
It is supposed to be "specialised nutrition specifically designed for the over 50's"
You add one 30g sachet to 200ml cold or warm water (or semi-skimmed milk) and stir until dissolved completely.
I'm not sure how long I was expected to stand there stirring but I gave it a good go and, unfortunately, it still hadn't completely dissolved after 5 mins. It reminded me of trying to make a milk shake from drinking chocolate. It had the same feeling in my mouth too. I suspect that using warm water (I am physically sick at the smell of warm milk) would have allowed it to dissolve better. Altho' it IS marketed as a Shake!
There is already a milk powder in it but I had to do more research to find out why it is supposed to be so good nutritionally, as the free packet I received had no ingredients listed at all. It DID have 3 diagrams showing me how to pour water/milk into a glass!, how to empty the sachet into the glass of water/milk! and how to stir it!
My research showed that here in the UK you can get a box of 7 x 30g sachets for just under £7 (US$9.29, CA$12.19, AUS$12.51, Eu7.91)
THAT'S 1 WEEKS WORTH
The selling site where I obtained the information also states that "add the content of one sachet into 150ml of hot water (max 60°C)."
Hmmmm! NOT what was on the freebie sachet then! Soooooo
Immediate FAIL
If you are promoting a product by asking people to sign up for a free sample then the product NEEDS to come across as being the best free sample EVER! You may then get a sale. The chocolate shake that I received was more dilute and FAR less palatable due to it being a cold drink.
So what I thought I had found by testing this, was in fact known to them after all!
The sub-title for the product is Strength and Vitality, it has 9g protein and 16 Vitamins and Minerals:
Vitamin C
Riboflavin (Vitamin B2)
Vitamin B6
Folic Acid
Pantothenic Acid
Potassium
Vitamin D
Zinc
Selenium
Iron
Calcium
Phosphorus
Vitamin A
Vitamin E
Vitamin K
Thiamin (Vitamin B1)
I think I would also like to have seen some Glucosamine & Chondroitin in there too as it's aimed at over 50's.
There own website says that the Chicken Soup is Vegetarian ..... Now I'm really confused - surely it's Chicken Flavoured Soup then? Plus there's absolutely no fibre in any of the products so why are they doing a Vegetable Soup one?
In Conclusion
I'm afraid for £338 p.a. (US$447.89, CA$587.84, AUS$603.31, EU381.74) I could buy complex multivitamins, minerals and even specific types to target my own personal issues - like Potassium and Calcium and Vit D or beauty vitamins for hair and nail strength and still have some money left over for a Hot Chocolate with whipped cream every week for a year 😍
Thanks for the freebie tho, it really was appreciated, maybe I'm just not the right over 50 year old.
